LAFAYETTE—An 18-year-old student at a Lafayette high school was arrested Wednesday after allegedly pointing a gun at other students.

According to Lafayette Police Lieutenant Matt Gard, officers were called to the Crossing Alternative High School on Wabash Avenue during the noon hour on reports of a fight and a student with a gun.

When police got to the school, the student with the gun had left. He was found at home in White County, which is north of Lafayette.

Gard says the 18-year-old had been in a fight with another student outside the school. The suspect was threatening students with a baseball bat. He then got into his car and pointed a gun at a group of five students, all of them teenagers. He did not fire the weapon.

After his arrest, the suspect was brought back to Lafayette and booked into the Tippecanoe County Jail.

He will face a number of charges, including: Pointing a Firearm, Carrying a Handgun Without a License, and Intimidation With a Deadly Weapon.
