Bikers go 'Ella Strong' in fundraiser for Noblesville school shooting victim

CICERO, Ind. -- American Legion Riders revved up their engines Sunday afternoon to raise money for Ella Whistler, the Noblesville West Middle School student seriously injured in a shooting earlier this year.

More than 380 motorcyclists participated in the 20-mile ride, which started at the American Legion Hall in Cicero. The ride was organized as a fundraiser for the ongoing medical bills Whistler faces as she recovers from seven gunshot wounds she sustained when a classmate opened fire at her school in May.

Whistler was also given a vest and made an honorary member of the club.

“She thanked us. Her family thanked us. Her neighbors thanked us,” said Dave Baughman, of the Cicero American Legion Riders. “She’s happy.”

Organizers said the ride raised more than $10,000.
