CARMEL — A Carmel man who pleaded guilty to stealing an English bulldog will not be heading to prison.
According to court records, a judge on Thursday ordered Reid Albrecht, 22, to serve two years in the Hamilton County Community Corrections work release program after he pleaded guilty to one count of theft. The judge ordered that if Albrecht completes one year with no violations he will be eligible to petition the court for home detention.

The judge also ordered Albrecht to pay $4,280 in restitution.
Gus, a popular bulldog who was known for his ability to skateboard, was stolen from a yard in the 3000 block of Hazel Foster Drive in Oct. 2017.
During the Carmel police investigation, people reported seeing Albrecht with a bulldog that matched Gus' description. Albrecht reportedly told people he adopted the dog from the Humane Society, however, neither the Indianapolis nor the Hamiliton County Humane Society had a record of him adopting an animal.
Albrecht was known to live with his father at a house about 1,000 feet from the victim's house.
At the time of his arrest, Albrecht was in jail serving a 180-day sentence for possession of a controlled substance and possession of marijuana.
Gus' current status remains unknown.
