CARMEL — The Carmel-Clay School Board is fast-tracking a plan to pay for repairs to the damage at Carmel High School caused by an explosion last December.
Monday night the school board voted to officially declare an emergency, so they can bypass some of the rules on taking bids for construction work to finish the repairs.

The explosion was caused by a gas leak in a mechanical room and Carmel-Clay school officials say it will cost more than $2.7 million to repair all the damage the explosion caused.
The school district says their insurance will cover most of that cost, except for a $75,000 deductible.
Two people were injured in the explosion.
