CARMEL, IN — Carmel High School’s athletic programs took a big step up. On Thursday, Carmel High School took WRTV on an exclusive tour of their high school's newest facilities.
“This is not necessarily a project that would be embraced in many communities," explained Athletic Director Jim Inskeep.
The school recently finished a $55 million renovation of the school’s Natatorium. The investment reflects the program's success as the girl's swim and dive team has won 38 consecutive state titles.
The facility includes an Olympic pool, a separate diving well, and a therapy pool with a ramp that students with disabilities can use.
Carmel Senior and Olympic medalist Alex Shackell says the pool facility is one of the best in the nation.
“There is not one complaint I could think about — it’s just a beautiful facility and we are really lucky to have it," she explained.
“I think it gives hope for the younger kids that their wildest goals are achievable here," Inskeep added.
The program's Natatorium is just the latest investment for the district.
Earlier this fall, the school unveiled an indoor football facility that is serving more than just Greyhound Football.
"It's a multi-purpose facility. It's designed with the marching band in mind," explained Carmel Marching Band director Chris Kreke.
The band has been using the facility since October. Its impact is already felt by many.
“The marching band for years —has been on the asphalt parking lots down here at the north end of the stadium," Kreke told WRTV. "With marching band that creates a lot of issues with wind and rain and heat and snow and we hit all of the seasons.”

Kreke says the investment has meant the world to the students in his program.
“It is a show of support for them and what they do in an area that can sometimes be perceived as something lesser or not as important. Our kids see that,” Kreke said.
Inskeep says it's reflective of the community support the school receives.
"I think it's representative of the greater community at large. we see it as an investment not only in our school and our community, but our kids as well," Inskeep said.
"Carmel Clay Schools has always been incredibly supportive of those kids. I think this is a great display of that," Kreke added.
The construction doesn't stop there for Carmel. The school is currently working on a renovation of its football stadium. The project is set to be completed by 2026.
