CARMEL, Ind. -- Firefighters had to work quickly to battle a blaze at a large home in Carmel on Wednesday.

Crews were called to the home in the 3500 block of Hintocks Circle just before 4 p.m. for a report of a fire. When they arrived flames were already shooting through the west side of the home.

Firefighters on the scene say high winds forced the fire across the home causing extreme damage to the roof-line.

It is unclear exactly how much damage the fire caused but property records show that the home was last appraised at almost $1.5 million.

Firefighters say the family was home when the fire started and they made it out safely along with all of their pets.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
