NOBLESVILLE — Former Indianapolis Colts star Robert Mathis will not stand trial this week in Hamilton County on charges of Operating a Vehicle While Intoxicated.
The Hamilton County Prosecutor's Office says Mathis will plead guilty, although the prosecutor is not saying to what charge.
That information will become public at a change-of-plea hearing on March 12.
Mathis retired as a player in 2016 after 14-years with the Colts.
He is the team's all-time sacks leader.
He was charged in late-2017 after Carmel Police noticed his car being driven the wrong way on Windemere Boulevard.
Police dashcam video showed Mathis stumbling and unable to focus while performing several sobriety tests.
According to a police report, Mathis’ speech was “slow and thick and he appeared lost and confused.”
Mathis told the officer he was on his way home but had no idea where he was.
A breath test at the scene showed Mathis had a blood-alcohol level of .043 and a chemical test administered at the Carmel Police Department after his arrest registered a blood-alcohol level of .052, both below the legal limit of .08.
Mathis told the arresting officer he had one shot of Cognac and had taken a sleeping aid and later told police he had also taken two shots of Crown Royal, according to the police report.
