INDIANAPOLIS -- In order to address community concerns, St. Vincent said Tuesday that it is withdrawing its rezoning application for 30 acres of land at 96th Street and Spring Mill Road in Carmel.
However, the health system says it will continue to move forward with the land purchase for the proposed $1 billion medical center.
St. Vincent confirmed in April that it had entered into an agreement to buy the land at Spring Mill and 96th, between 96th and I-456, from Ambrose Property Group.
A map included with the initial rezoning application showed that the project would consist of nine buildings and four parking garages as well as two hospital helipads.

People who live in the area said they'd been left in the dark. They were also concerned about the noise and traffic the development would bring to their residential neighborhoods.
In a statement Tuesday, St. Vincent said they will purchase the land at 96th Street and Spring Mill Road, but have decided to allow more time for planning in order to consider the concerns of neighbors.
"We are joining with our project partners to request a withdrawal of the previous rezoning request for that land. We look forward to refiling a comprehensive vision for this property - at a later date - that explores how we can create a space that's focused on improving our community's health and wellness."
No word on when the rezoning request might be refiled.
