CARMEL —Thousands of Duke Energy customers in Carmel experienced power outages on Thursday evening due to hardware issues.
According to the Duke Energy power outage map, starting around 5:40 p.m. close to 2,000 residencies from East 146th to East 116th Street was out of power.
The outages were due to two different situations, according to a Duke Energy spokesperson. The first affected over 2,000 customers due to a faulty underground cable at the 146th Street Duke Energy substation.
According to the site, they predict to have those customers up by 11:45 p.m. Thursday.
The second outage affected over 1,000 due to faulty switchgear. According to Duke Energy, they plan to be working on the hardware past midnight to complete restoration of service in this area.
In this area, near Smokey Row Road, they were down to just under 100 affected by 11:30 p.m.
