CARMEL — Five days after the explosion at Carmel High School, the school is still hopeful for a Jan. 8 return for students.
"We have made several positive steps forward in getting the Carmel High School campus ready for occupancy," said Superintendent, Michael Beresford. "We were able to restore heat and power to most of the building with the exception of the damaged area..."
The two men injured in the explosion are both still in the hospital and receiving treatment.
Superintendent Bresford says he still thinks it's miraculous that both men made it out.
"I was able to visit the area where the explosion occurred. I still cannot imagine what they went through and how they were able to walk out of that area," he said.
The school is offering counseling services for those affected that night. As there were students, parents and staff in the building the night of the explosion.
As of right now, Carmel Clay Schools is facing two challenges: replacing the pool heater and the hot-water boilers (which serve the athletic area and Greyhound Station).
Carmel High School will remain closed until all construction areas are sectioned off.
