CARMEL — A mother in Carmel is pleading with drivers pay more attention after she says she's witnessed drivers blowing past school bus stop arms and lights on numerous occasions.
Lisa Vaughn captured cell phone video on two different days of multiple drivers disregarding the school bus stop arm and lights at a bus stop on 116th Street between Keystone Avenue and Gray Road.
"I'm surprised this keeps happening right now after we've already had some tragic incidents with people going through stops," Vaughn said.
Although she only shot video on those two days, Vaughn says she's witnessed drivers doing the same thing many times this school year and she isn't the only one who's noticed the issue in Carmel.
"A friend of mine who posted on social media that lives close to here said that her teenage daughter just assumed that people are going to stop and almost got ran over yesterday," Vaughn said.
It's a conversation that has been happening across the nation after a series of tragic accidents at bus stops across the country, including several here in Indiana.
"It shouldn't be happening that the bus driver has to honk at people every other day because they're not paying attention to the giant yellow bus in front of them," Vaughn said.
Vaughn hopes police will start patrolling the area when the bus picks up and drops kids off, so they can enforce bus safety and stop drivers from having a potentially fatal mistake.
