Construction forces Carmel business to close

Posted

CARMEL, Ind. – J. Razzo’s Italian Restaurant is closing its doors in Carmel after they say construction has caused business to drop.

Since 2014, the restaurant on North Meridian Street has been impacted by road projects and the exit to 126th Street exit from U.S. 31 has made it difficult for customers to get to the business.

John Perazzo, owner of J. Razzo’s says not having the exit open and new construction on a roundabout forced him to decide to not put any more money in the location.

“One day I looked at the checking account and it said, ‘I just can't put any more money into that restaurant,’” Perazzo said. “The outlook was not bright at all."

When the construction started in 2014, Carmel Mayor Jim Brainard handed out bracelets, encouraging people to still come to the area and support the businesses.

While the location in Carmel will close on Sept. 15, Razzos says he hasn’t ruled out the option of opening another restaurant at a different location in Carmel.
