FISHERS, Ind. -- Think you can you construct a boat out of cardboard sturdy and water resistant enough to transport at least two people 200 yards? Then you should consider entering the City of Fisher’s first-ever Cardboard Regatta.
The race is happening Saturday, Aug. 4 at The Indianapolis Sailing Club on Geist Reservoir. Registration is free and ends July 20th.
There's a lengthy list of rules and regulations about the race and how boats are to be constructed, which can be found on the city's website. Violations will result in point deductions and time penalties. Teams of at least two and up to four people will construct their own boats using only cardboard, with exception of the sail, which is mandatory. To propel, teams can use a combination of sailing and paddling. But no paddling with arms or legs will be permitted. Participants must bring their own life jackets.
In addition to the race, boats will be judged based on best original design, best construction, best decorated, best team effort, and people’s choice. There’s also an award for Most Spectacular Sinking.
