INDIANAPOLIS — The winter storm could impact people who have COVID-19 vaccine appointments scheduled this week, the Indiana State Department of Health said Monday.
The state is working with local vaccination sites to reschedule appointments, according to a news release. People whose appointments are affected will be notified by email or text message that they need to reschedule by calling 211.
"The state is working to ensure that Hoosiers who are scheduled to receive their second dose of vaccine still receive the dose within the appropriate timeframe," the news release said. "A second dose of the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines that is administered within 42 days of the first dose still provides full immunity to COVID-19, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention."
Some Indiana cities and counties have already announced changes.
The Fishers Health Department will close its COVID-19 testing and vaccine sites at 1 p.m. People with an appointment scheduled after 1 p.m. should contact the Fishers COVID Hotline at 317-595-3211 to reschedule.
According to the Madison County Health Department, COVID-19 vaccine appointments scheduled from 8 a.m.-1 p.m. Tuesday will be rescheduled for the same times Thursday. The health department will call people affected by the change.

Franciscan Health in Indianapolis is closing its COVID-19 vaccine and testing clinics on Tuesday. The hospital anticipates reopening the clinics on Wednesday.
People currently eligible for the COVID-19 vaccine include Hoosiers age 65 and older, health care workers, long-term care residents and first responders who are regularly called to the scene of an emergency.
Vaccinations can be scheduled online or by calling 211. As of Monday, 816,758 Hoosiers have received their first dose of the vaccine and 336,827 are full vaccinated.
Between 1-2 inches of snow fell overnight in Central Indiana, and heavy snowfall is expected to begin in the afternoon with 9-11 inches possible.
