FISHERS, Ind. -- An Indianapolis woman has been charged with neglecting and strangling a toddler she was caring for at a Fishers home.
Fishers police say they arrested Shannon Gillen, 27, after the parents of a 15-month-old she was hired to care for provided surveillance video that showed her abusing their daughter.
The investigation began after the parents contacted police after they found bruises on their child. Police say they were able to provide surveillance footage from their home security system that showed Gillen engaging in "abusive behavior."
According to court documents, the video from the child's room showed Gillen neglecting to check on her for over an hour when she starts crying and then aggressively jerking her around while trying to change her diaper.
The surveillance video also showed Gillian hitting the toddler in the head with one of her toys and then threatening to "beat her up and put her in timeout" when she starts crying.
Gillen is charged with battery resulting in bodily injury to a child, neglect of a dependent and strangulation.
This case remains under investigation by the Hamilton County Prosecutor's Office and Fishers Police Department.
