INDIANAPOLIS -- Community leaders hope that the death of a 13-year-old Indianapolis boy last week will serve as a teachable moment and a push to help stop the violence in Indianapolis.
Reverend Malachi Walker with "Young Men, Inc." brought a group of nearly five dozen boys to march along 21st Street and Arlington Street where 13-year-old Harry Taliefer was shot and killed last Thursday.
Taliefer's family says that the shooting stemmed from a fight that started two days earlier and the teen was trying to keep the peace when he was shot.
"You guys have an opportunity," Walker said to the boys during the event. "You have an opportunity right now to help turn this city around. This violence in this city, you can help turn it around."
Walker says "Young Men, Inc." focuses on discipline, education and respect and he brought the boys to the memorial to show them the toll that guns and violence are having on their communities.
