NOBLESVILLE, Ind. -- The man credited with disarming a student who opened fire in a Noblesville classroom received a special honor Tuesday morning.
The Noblesville Kiwanis Club presented teacher Jason Seamen with the Medal of Heroism.
Seaman and student Ella Whistler were shot multiple times back in May when a 13-year-old student brought a gun into the classroom and opened fire.

Whistler placed the medal around Seaman’s neck during the ceremony.
“There’s been a lot of recognition and I still don’t feel like it’s deserved on my end because of the situation,” said Seaman. “It truly did come to me and I had to react that way, but it’s nice to see the humanitarian side of things and see the community continue to stay together and just celebrate one another, be happy that we’re in this together.”

Whistler told members of the Noblesville Kiwanis Club that she still has four of those bullets in her body.
Both Seaman and Whistler have returned to Noblesville West Middle School.
