NOBLESVILLE, Ind. -- Noblesville Schools is banning students who do not attend the high school from attending the upcoming homecoming dance, citing space and safety concerns.
“Due to space concerns, students will no longer be permitted to bring guests who are not currently enrolled at NHS,” read an email sent to parents on Monday. “Only students who currently attend Noblesville High School, and are in good standing may attend the dance.”
The dance, scheduled for September 21, according to the district’s calendar.
“This change is necessary to assure proper safety and supervision in the physical space we have available at NHS,” read the email.
The student population at Noblesville High School has been growing, which district leaders said has increased the number of teens attending the homecoming dance.
“Last year homecoming was noticeably more crowded and many students who left early stated that there were too many people in the gym to dance,” read the email. “We looked at our situation and realized that we had a large number of attendees at the dance who were not Noblesville High School students. In an effort to control our dance numbers to maximize our physical space, non-NHS guests will not be permitted at homecoming.”
Noblesville Schools is implementing a number of safety enhancements this school year following the May 25 shooting that left a student and teacher injured.
