NOBLESVILLE, Ind. -- A horrifying day brought a Noblesville community closer together four months ago. But those who helped during the Noblesville West Middle School shooting on May 25 were honored at a ceremony Tuesday night.

It was Hero Night at the Noblesville East/West football game at Beaver Materials Field Tuesday night. The game began with first responders delivering the game ball to officials. The honorees received free admission, tailgate refreshments, and were recognized for their service in a time of need.

"I know the term 'hero' can make people uncomfortable, but the point tonight is that hero comes in all packages, and there is no heroic act too small or too great and we want to make sure we acknowledge all of those people tonight," Noblesville West Principal Stacey Swan said.

Rick Fields, the athletic director for both schools, made it his mission to invite everybody from first responders, medical personnel, counselors, businesses, churches, and all the citizens who dropped off food and water to the schools during the event and the aftermath.

Also in attendance was Jason Seaman, the science teacher credited with stopping the shooter who opened fire in his classroom.

"It was a traumatic event for the entire community, and just knowing that we were supported by the first responders, the community, it helps us feel better for the entire day," Swan said.
