NOBLESVILLE — Police in Noblesville are investigating a threat toward the high school and they have a student suspect in custody.
Marnie Cooke, director of marketing and communications for the district, said the threat involved "ugly, derogatory racial statements and referenced a school shooting this coming Monday."
According to Noblesville police, the threats were put on a bathroom/stall wall and was brought to police attention around 11 a.m. Friday.
Police were questioning a person of interest following the discovery of the text and the school reported Friday evening that a student suspect had been taken into custody. The student was removed from the school and they have begun expulsion proceedings against him.
Hamilton Southeastern School Superintendent Beth Niedermeyer released the following statement Friday evening:
“The cruelty, hatred and ugliness that we’ve seen in our community is heartbreaking and as a school district and community, we are better than this. We must stand together against violence and racism."
In response to Friday's incident, Niedermeyer said they were working with the Noblesville Diversity Coalition and the NHS student leaders to hold a conversation about ensuring student safety on Saturday, November 17 from 3 - 4:30 p.m. The conversation will he held at Ivy Tech in Noblesville.
"The event will be a time to share and listen to one another, think about ways we can stand together to show our love and support of all people and discuss ways we can help to unify our community. Noblesville Schools counselors will also available at the event for those who need support.”
NHS will be in session on Monday with increased police presence and weekend activities will continue as scheduled, according to the school.
