NOBLESVILLE, Ind. -- If you receive a random form from Humana Insurance in your mailbox, you may be a victim of mail theft.
Police in Noblesville, Indiana are warning people of the possible thefts.
Rick and Sharon Balser spent their day Wednesday getting ahold of their bank after they were victimized.
"Stopping my checking, getting a new checking, had to get with Social Security," Rick said.
In Noblesville's North Harbour subdivision, the female suspect picked out the mailboxes that had a flag sticking up. She took the outgoing mail and replaced it with the Humana Insurance form, police say. Sharon was home at the time.
The pamphlets were a cover, in case anybody asked the thief what they were doing. The actual mail carrier came an hour later.
The Balsers' neighbor also got her mail stolen.
If your mail gets stolen, alert the Postal Inspector and file a police report. Police also want you to talk to your neighbors and warn them.
"Not only can you lose all of your money that you got in there," Rick said. "But it's inconvenient for you to go through the whole complete process of trying to get everything connected to another account."
A spokesperson with Humana said they are looking into the matter, saying "The described incident may constitute mail fraud and Humana does not condone such behavior. We take seriously a report of this nature and appreciate the efforts of law enforcement to investigate."
