WESTFIELD, Ind. – Owners of a Westfield gym that caters to children with special needs announced it would remain open after experiencing financial issues earlier this week.
Carter’s Play Place was set to close Sunday, but co-owner Adam Meents said an investor stepped forward with a significant contribution to keep the place in operation. The gym is named after Meents' 9-year-old son, who has autism.
Meents said the new development will help families who depend on the place to allow their children “to cut loose, get some exercise, and have fun.”
"What we have now is substantial and it'll get us through,” he said. “It should be enough to get us through for the long haul, so I don't want anyone to be cautious. I want everybody to know, if you secure and book a birthday party with us and it's 3 months out, 4 months out, 5 months out, we're definitely good on it."
Meents did not say who the investor was, but noted the husband and wife team were customers of the business for a long time.
Carter’s Play Place is still looking to secure an occupational therapy program for the gym.
