AVON, Ind. -- Police in Avon have canceled a search for an attempted child abductor after they say the child who reported the incident admitted he was lying.
Officers responded to a possible child abduction in the area of Park Place, Harvest Ridge and Beechwood Farms Sunday evening.
After an exhaustive search with officers, K-9 unites and deputies with the Hendricks County Sheriff's Office, detectives found a number of inconsistencies in the report that was made.
The child who reported the abduction later admitted that they had made it up.
"We appreciate the community engagement in sharing our social media messages, and the willingness of our residents to help our responding officers who were asking many of you if you had observed an individual in the area earlier today," the Avon Police Department posted on their Facebook page Sunday evening.
