DANVILLE — A Danville police officer saved a man's life on Christmas Day after he used department-issued Narcan on a man suffering from an apparent drug overdose.

According to a report from the Danville Metropolitan Police Department, officers responded to an apparent drug overdose on West Lincoln Street. When they arrived, officers found a 43-year-old man unconscious on the ground. A family member was conducting CPR. The man was not breathing and was turning purple.

Police said Officer Javie Settlemoir used his department-issued Narcan and administered it into the man's nostrils. After administering the Narcan, the man began to breath again. Medics with the Danville Fire Department then arrived and took over medical care.

According to a police post on Facebook, no illicit items were located around or on the man's person, however, he was found to have an active warrant for his arrest. After receiving medical care, the man will be booked into the Hendricks County Jail for the warrant.

The police department said all officers carry Narcan and are trained to use it.
