AVON, Ind. -- One person has died and a second person is in critical condition after a shooting at a home in The Settlement near the Plainfield-Avon line Monday afternoon.
Avon Police Department officers were called to the home in the 2700 block of Bluewood Way around 2:45 p.m. for a report of two people who had been shot.
Assistant Chief of Police Brian Nugent said a woman who said she was coming to the home to pick up a television from an online transaction found two people suffering gunshot wounds laying outside.
When police arrived they found a man dead with a firearm lying near him. A woman was also found nearby suffering from at least two gunshot wounds. She was taken to the hospital in critical condition.
Neither of the people who were shot has been identified.
Detectives are still obtaining search warrants for the residence where the two were found and the home across the street where Asst. Chief Nugent said they believe the two actually lived.
Police are not looking for a shooter at this time.
"It's important for everybody to understand from our perspective these things are rare but they can happen anywhere," said Asst. Chief Nugent. "This is a safe community. We are confident that we are not looking for a suspect who has fled the scene."
Asst. Chief Nugent says this is only the second homicide in the town of Avon, the city's last homicide was in 2009.
