PLAINFIELD — A woman is dead after she was thrown from a car and killed in a crash early Sunday morning on Interstate 70 near Plainfield.

Around 3:20 a.m., the driver of a car crashed into the back of a semi-tractor trailer stopped on the shoulder of I-70 eastbound, Indiana State Police Sgt. John Perrine said. The woman, a passenger in the car, was thrown from the car and died.

Krystal Paschal, 39, of Indianapolis, was killed in the crash, Hendricks County Coroner Rick Morphew said in an email.

Another woman in the car was alert and conscious when they were taken to a local hospital with injuries, Perrine said. The drive of the semi-truck wasn't injured.

It was raining in the area at the time of the crash, which is believed to be a contributing factor in the crash, Perrine said. Alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the crash, but both drivers were tested for alcohol, which is standard procedure in all serious crashes. The results are pending.

The crash remains under investigation.
