BROWNSBURG, Ind. – The police officers who lose their lives on the job are honored during National Police Week.

Southport Police Lt. Aaron Allan was honored in Washington D.C. during May 2018’s Police Week.

“What turned into a heartfelt gift for my father, quickly turned into a passion project, which led to me starting a small business,” said U.S. Navy veteran, Matthew Miller.  “I’ve been able to reach out to members of Armed Forces, law enforcement, firefighters, active duty personnel, and it feels good to be able to give back to organizations and those who put their lives on the line to make sure ours are ok.”

Miller is the owner of MizzleMade, LLCand he makes American wood flags for the service men and women who make the ultimate sacrifice.

"I was raised to take pride in my work, so each of these flags are built with passion,” said Miller.  “Each piece of wood is wood glued and nailed together.  I was always taught if you're going to do something, do it right the first time and when you're done you should be able to put your name on it."

The day Miller was on his way to deliver the flag he made for his father was also the same day of Deputy Jacob Pickett’s funeral procession.

“I pulled over and asked one of the state troopers if there was a way he could get one of the flags to the family and he told me he could,” said Miller.  “So, I endorsed it right there and sent it home with him.”

Miller is now doing flags for Purple Heart recipients and for Breast Cancer Awareness.

MizzleMade will never be about the money, we will always be about the people,” Miller said.

Each flag cost $99 and portions of each sale will go towards local armed services organizations, such as police and fire departments.
