Heroin mixed with elephant tranquilizer now in Morgan County

MARTINSVILLE, Ind. -- A drop of elephant tranquilizer can kill you, and the coroner in Morgan County says heroin users are now mixing it with their drugs.

According to Morgan County Coroner Annette Davis Rohlman, heroin dealers in are mixing the drug with carfentanil.

Carfentanil is a synthetic version of fentanyl, which has been another dangerous addition to some forms of heroin.

Carfentanil is 10,000 times stronger than morphine.

In a message from the Martinsville Police Department, Rohlman said the numbers are up, and she expects more deaths than last year.

She said the first responders carry Narcan, but it's not working. A few weeks ago, one person was killed in 12 total overdoses in Jennings County, Indiana.
