Holiday shipping delays continue for Indianapolis woman

INDIANAPOLIS — One Indianapolis woman is still waiting on a package full of Christmas presents she sent nearly three weeks ago to be delivered. Aggie Adkins said she is frustrated and losing hope her package will ever arrive.

“I just want to know where my package is or I just want it to be delivered to my family,” Adkins said.

The box full of presents was the closest she said she could physically get with family this year after having to cancel her trip to visit her 84-year-old mother and sister due to COVID-19 travel restrictions. Another, smaller package she sent out the same day was delivered this weekend, still long after its estimated arrival.

“No updates since last Friday," she said. "I subscribed to the USPS tracking text notifications and I haven’t gotten any information since last Friday.”

According to the tracking information, Adkins said her box was thought to be in Pittsburgh on the way its next destination.

WRTV spoke withAdkins about frustrations she and many others shared this holiday season over this issue last week.

“I’m kind of starting to give up hope they’re ever going to make it there," she said. "The information has always been a little less than I would hope for."

She added she reached out to USPS via a chat feature on their website, but now she is also looking to find a customer service representative to speak with in person.

“I don’t feel confident that everything is running smoothly,” Adkins said.

USPS declined all interview requests, but released a statement in response to questions about continued shipping delays:
The Postal Service delivered a record amount of packages this holiday season in the midst of the pandemic which significantly impacted our workforce availability. Capacity challenges with airlifts and trucking for moving this historic volume of mail also lead to temporary delays. These challenges were felt by shippers across the board. We are accepting all volumes being presented to us, which adds to the challenge of the workload. We are proud of the hard work and dedication of our employees, and will continue to work around the clock to deliver all packages and mail entered into our system, including returns. We thank our customers for their continued support and understanding.”

“My issue is not with how hard the postal workers are working, I just wish there was some more transparency or maybe more available information,” Adkins said.
