FISHERS — The Hamilton Southeastern School Board passed a new anti-discrimination policy Wednesday evening that includes gender identity as a protected class.

A vote on the issue failed last month, which led to backlash. Cheers broke out after the measure passed.

"I've never felt such a heavy weight lifted off my shoulders, and it's the most satisfying feeling ever," Easton Good said.

The policy also means and HSE school could discipline a student, teacher or staff member for harassment or discrimination.

"I'm a cadet teacher for kindergartners, and they're the class of 2031 and they're going to feel protected," Jason Nguyen said.
