INDIANAPOLIS — An IMPD officer was involved in a crash resulting in the death of a bicyclist on Monday.
According to Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, the crash occurred in the 3200 block of East 10th St. around 2:15 p.m.
According to police, an IMPD officer identified as 2-year-veteran Mark Brown, was responding to a domestic violence call and possible home invasion.
Police said Brown activated his emergency lights and sirens and was approaching N. LaSalle Street when a vehicle in front of the him attempted to start a left-hand turn as the officer was passing him on the left.
Brown attempted to avoid a collision with the vehicle but as the officer came around the vehicle, he collided with an adult male riding his bicycle westbound.
That cyclist was taken to a local hospital in critical condition. He later died at the hospital.
On Tuesday, the Marion County Coroner identified the man as 34-year-old Joseph Stiger.
Per IMPD policy, and state law, the officer was also taken to a hospital for a blood draw.
According to police, the officer was wearing a body camera.
An investigation is ongoing by IMPD.
