UPDATE: The Marion County Coroner's Office has identified the baby as Maria Guadalupe Sanchez, 1. The cause of death is pending, the coroner's office said.
INDIANAPOLIS — Police in Indianapolis are investigating after a baby died Saturday afternoon on the east side of Indianapolis.
The investigation began around 4:45 p.m. in the 3800 block of East Washington Street, IMPD Sgt. Jim Gillespie said in an email.
The baby was in a car before they were taken to Riley Hospital for Children, Gillespie said. The baby later died at the hospital.
It is unknown how long the baby was in the car or if they were alone.
No further information or the identity of the baby have been released.
The Marion County Coroner's office will work to determine the cause of death.
