IMPD seeks young adults for cadet program launch

Posted

INDIANAPOLIS – Young adults looking to become police officers in the near future were encouraged Tuesday to apply for IMPD’s new cadet program.

IMPD Cadets will target those ages 18-21 who will be hired as part-time employees of the Indianapolis police department. Cadets will also participate in training and mentorship activities to help them prepare for their journey of becoming an officer someday.

"Investing in the personal and professional development of our city's youth will better their future and better the future of Indianapolis," said Mayor Joseph Hogsett. "The IMPD Cadet program is an invaluable initiative that offers career paths and mentorship to young people who need it most."

The program was made possible by a $100,000 grant awarded to the Indy Public Safety Foundation from the Indianapolis Foundation.

“We are so excited to help IMPD with this exciting program aimed to assist youth in our community who want to serve as police officers, but just need a little extra support,” said Dane Nutty, IPSF Executive Director. “This program has the opportunity to be transformative to the lives of these individuals.”

Those interested in becoming one of the 10 cadets brought on board can apply here.  Applications will be accepted through May 26.
