INDIANAPOLIS—The state is getting some funding help from Washington as it plans to upgrade I 65 in Boone County.
The $50 million project, set to begin next year and finish in 2021, will add an interchange in the Whitestown area, improve the exit at State Road 267 and reconfigure the I 65/865 junction in the southeastern part of the county.
Debbie Calder, a spokesperson from the Indiana Department of Transportation, says INDOT was planning to pickup the entire cost of the project. That was until the U.S. Department of Transportation awarded a $16 million federal grant. The state's portion will now be $34 million and the $16 million it isn't spending can be used on other projects.
The new exit will be at County Road 500 South in the Whitestown area, where there has been tremendous population and business growth in recent years. That same growth is leading to a need for a better interchange at State Road 267.
