AVON — Avon police say a juvenile has been "detained" and has admitted responsibility for social media posts "targeting" young female Avon school students.

According to police in the Hendricks County town, many residents reported concerns over postings on an Instagram page.

Both town and school police are not offering specific information about what was contained in the posts.

Thursday, a joint investigation by the two departments identified a juvenile who claimed responsibility for the social media page and its content.

The Avon Police Department issued this statement: While it is not appropriate to share/discuss the name and status of this individual, we want to assure the community that this individual has been identified and detained.

The police department also said it has learned of an additional social post that concerned a threat to Avon, although the threat did not specify the target to be an Avon School. Police are not saying if the additional threat was related to the earlier ones that targeted students.

The police departments statement went on to say: While our agencies continue to investigate this threat at this very hour, we ask that our entire community remain patient with our officers and have confidence in the investigative process.
