INDIANAPOLIS — Indianapolis said goodbye to a fallen firefighter Monday.
Indianapolis Fire Department Engineer Matthew Bennett was laid to rest at Crown Hill Cemetery.
The 49-year-old was assigned to the department's Engine One. On November 13, he drove it to a possible structure collapse.
Shortly after arriving, Bennett complained of chest pain. He died the next day.
Bennett had a long career that included working for the Wayne Township and Franklin Township departments.
He was buried in the Heroes of Public Safety Section of Crown Hill following a procession that passed IFD Station One.
Governor Eric Holcomb also order Marion County flags to be flown at half staff on Monday, in honor of Bennett.
