GREENCASTLE — An Indianapolis man died in an off-road vehicle crash Thursday evening in Putnam County.

The Indiana Department of Natural Resources reported that Indiana Conservation Officers responded to a call after 7:30 p.m. about an accident involving an off-road vehicle on private property along County Road 600 South near Greencastle.

Officers found Harvey Stringer, 68, unresponsive and slumped over the handlebars of his vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

DNR believes Stringer was operating the off-road vehicle in tall grass with poor visibility when it crashed into a deep ditch that was approximately five-feet wide. Stringer was not wearing a helmet or protective equipment.

Indiana Conservation Officers are investigating the incident and no foul play is suspected.
