NOBLESVILLE — Robert Lackey, a 61-year-old Fishers man, was riding his bike on Brooks School Road last year when he was hit by a 2007 Buick SUV. He died at Eskenazi Hospital.

Now, the driver who caused that accident has been sentenced to three-years in prison, with one-year suspended.

60-year-old Deborah Sundstrom of Indianapolis pleaded guilty to Reckless Homicide. In a plea deal, charges of Operating a Vehicle While Intoxicated Endangering a Parson and Causing Death When Operating a Motor Vehicle were dropped. She was sentenced Thursday in Hamilton County Circuit Court.

Both Sundstrom in the SUV and Lackey on his bike were heading north on Brooks School Road when Lackey was struck. Sundstrom told investigators she did not see the man on his bike.

According to his obituary, Lackey held a number of jobs over the years, including teaching science at Cathedral High School and in the Anderson school system. He has also worked as a microbiologist for the State of Indiana.
