INDIANAPOLIS -- Opening Thursday at the corner of College and Broad Ripple avenues, Broad Ripple “got really lucky” with the new Fresh Thyme Farmer’s Market, Kaitlyn O’Neill, a company representative, said.

The Broad Ripple location is the first Fresh Thyme to have a community room, an outdoor patio with event space, Cuppa’ Joe and More coffee shop, fresh juice bar and a hot bar, which has hot in-house foods.

The market isn’t just for buying the week’s groceries. There is a coffee shop with local shop Hubbard & Cravens, a salad bar, the juice and hot bars, Boar’s Head deli and a lounge to sit and enjoy it all.

“You can get a coffee and just hang out,” O’Neill said. “You want to get some sushi and just sit? Go for it.”

The most notable addition to the Broad Ripple Fresh Thyme is “Chipsters,” the in-store chip maker. It’s the first of its kind at a Fresh Thyme.

The market opened at 7 a.m., with the first 250 customers receiving a free bag of groceries.

Debbie Sutton, who has lived in Broad Ripple for 40 years, has been waiting on the Fresh Thyme to open.

“It’s right down the street from my house,” she said. “It will be a great thing for the whole community.”

Sutton was glad a grocery store went in the spot, instead of a bar.

Fresh Thyme has partnered with Indiana Grown to bring local foods to the grocery store. You can find the local food with a tag next to the price. There are currently about 25 Indiana Grown products in the store. Suzi Spahr, an Indiana Grown representative, said to expect more local food and produce in July when the harvest comes.

If you’re on the fence about going, Fresh Thyme has samples of many foods like cheeses, meats, juice, seafood, soup and the fresh chips.
