CSX cuts jobs at Avon rail yard

AVON, Ind. – CSX plans to cut jobs at its Avon location company officials said Tuesday. 

Rob Doolittle with CSX did not say how many positions would be eliminated but said the company has been in direct communication with employees, customers and other stakeholders who would be impacted by the changes.

The company provided a statement Tuesday:

"As part of an ongoing company-wide review of operations, CSX continues to make adjustments throughout the Indianapolis Terminal, including at Avon Yard, to improve efficiency and safety and to better serve customers. As a result of those changes, some positions in the area have been eliminated. CSX is communicating directly with employees, customers and other stakeholders who may be affected when these changes are made. Many of the employees who are affected by this change are eligible to work in other CSX facilities."

The city of Avon issued the following statement regarding the Avon Yard operated by CSX:

"The recent changes announced by CSX regarding the AVON Yard has impacted workers and their families and our thoughts are with them as they work through their options regarding employment.
