Development at former Mass Ave Coca-Cola plant to feature food hall, boutique hotel

Posted

INDIANAPOLIS – A new food hall will make its way to Indianapolis in 2019, but doesn’t the city already have one of those - The Indianapolis City Market? Think again.

A $260 million development at Mass Ave’s former Coca-Cola bottling plant will give a new meaning to the words, “food hall.”

Developers at Hendricks Properties, who referred to the project as Bottleworks, said the first phase of the project will include a West Elm Hotel and a food hall called The Garage, where fresh produce, meats, baked goods, startup and independent businesses can be found.

While the Indianapolis City Market does possess some of these amenities, The Garage will fill a large space in the former Coke plant’s two garages – about 30,000 square feet.

Rob Gerbitz, CEO of Hendricks Properties said as many as 20 different vendors will be in operation at any given time where people can buy fresh items to be prepared at home.

He compared the project to the Denver Central Market – only twice as large.

Gerbitz said his team is already talking with and reaching out to local and state food growers and said there is lots of interest.

Developers are expected to break ground on the project in May 2018 with the hotel and food hall opening in late 2019.
