INDIANAPOLIS -- A man died after he was pulled from the White River near downtown Indianapolis Thursday morning.
A dispatcher with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department said the individual was found deceased, but an IMPD spokesperson later said they were alive when they were pulled out, but in very critical condition.
The man was pronounced dead at 10:55 a.m., according to the Indiana Department of Natural Resources.
The person pulled from the White River was a man in his 30s, the spokesperson said.
Somebody fishing nearby told police they saw the man get into the water. They were in the water for about 15 minutes, the person said.
The man traveled about 600 feet until rescuers were able to get to him.
Police aren't sure why the man got into the water.
He has not been identified.
