INDIANAPOLIS -- Police say a man who was critically injured in a fight Thursday night near the Central Library in downtown Indianapolis has died.
Officers were called to the 700 block of N. Meridian Street around 7 p.m. for a report of a fight in progress.
Stanley Jones, 57, was unconscious on the ground when officers arrived. Jones suffered a head injury and three subsequent heart attacks while at Eskenazi Hospital. He died on Friday.
Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department Detectives say the case is now a death investigation.
The fight occurred in the same area where a man pulled out a knife and stabbed several people on April 7.

Gary Madison, 57, was arrested on three counts of battery by means of a deadly weapon.
The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department will be stepping up the presence of officers in the area following the two attacks.
"It's a little unsettling because we come down here as a family you know, with kids, you don't want them to be exposed to that, let along become victims of assault," said Quincy Dotson, Indianapolis.
"I know there are certain things that come with living in the city. I feel really bad for the people that are involved, but I think it's sort of what you can expect when you live in a metropolitan area," said Melissa Iannuzzi, Indianapolis.
The Central Library has its own security team and plans in place to respond if there's a problem.
Indianapolis Public Library CEO Jackie Nytes reiterates none of the incidents have taken place on library property, and because of that, the library isn't reconsidering its policies.
"We feel like we're doing a lot of the right things. In fact, when there have been concerns in the area, our guard who are manning those doorway check points and things like that, they know exactly the right things to do," said Nytes.
In addition, Nytes says the library works closely with IMPD and state police since the American Legion Mall is state property.
