INDIANAPOLIS -- This weekend, thousands of Hoosiers will set out to reach a person goal they set for themselves in the Monumental Marathon.
One Indianapolis mother is running for her son. She wants to make sure what happened to him doesn't happen to anybody else.
Amy Hunter's son Jake died in 2013 from a heroin overdose at age 21.
She spent the next 18 months mourning the loss of her child, until she decided to take a walk one day. Eventually, walking turned into running, which put her on the path to recovery.
"The biggest changes I noticed in myself are my ability to deal with anxiety, to deal with grief, to deal with pain and to accept a new normal, which is hard," she said.
Amy has pledged herself to do a race a month. This is the second year she's taken part in the Monumental Marathon to raise money for Operation Lifeline.
"I think Jake is with me when I run," Hunter said. "I can feel him."
