Tinker Street Restaurant and the Indy Ten Point Coalition are teaming up to provide free meals to people living on the east side in an attempt to bring the ailing community together.
The neighborhood near 42nd Street and Post Road has been plagued with violence, and community leaders say hunger caused by food deserts across the area is a contributing factor.
Recognizing this, the owner of the Tinker Street Restaurant wanted to step in.
Tom Main, owner of Tinker Street, says he wants people to know that someone is paying attention and that they matter. "We may not be able to solve it all right now, but we could put a dent in it and hopefully create some momentum -- positive momentum," Main said.
For today's event, Tinker Street is providing pasta, salad, bread and a dessert. It is their hope that other restaurants will join this effort.
The event will take place from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. every Thrusday at Meadowlark Apartments, located at 9350 E 43rd Street.
