INDIANAPOLIS -- An eighth grader at Belzer Middle School was taken into custody Wednesday after the student was found to have brought a loaded weapon on to school grounds, according to a spokesperson from MSD of Lawrence Township.
A teacher came to school administration after she saw something in the hallway that led her to believe the student might have weapon.
Students who heard there was a weapon on school property also brought forth more information to the administration.
Dana Altemeyer, public relations for MSD of Lawrence Township, says the student was removed from the school and will not be returning.
Altemeyer also released this statement:
"As with all matters of student safety, we take this event extremely seriously, and have acted accordingly, utilizing both district resources and the juvenile justice system. Building and district leadership are grateful to those who reported the weapon, recognizing it as a threat to the safety of the school community, and encourage all students to speak to a building staff member if ever a situation exists that could potentially place them or others in danger."
