FRANKLIN TOWNSHIP, Ind. -- An elderly man is expected to be okay after he drove his car into the freezing waters of a Franklin Township retention pond on Saturday.
IMPD officers and firefighters with the Indianapolis Fire Department were called to the 5200 block of Twin Bridge Boulevard just before 8 p.m. First responders found the man's car halfway submerged in the pond.
Neighbors told police they first noticed the man sitting in his car on a neighborhood street. They say they approached him and he appeared to be disoriented. A short time later he started driving through the grass and ended up in the pond.
Police and firefighters worked together to safely get him to shore by forming a human chain. He was taken to an area hospital to be checked out. A tow truck was called in to pull his car out of the water.
