INDIANAPOLIS -- Federal offices will be closed and the kids will be out of school on Monday in honor of Martin Luther King. Jr. Day but there will be plenty to do around Indianapolis. 

Dozens of places are offering free events in honor of Dr. King's 88th birthday on January, 15. 

Free Events/Admissions around Indy:

Indiana Historical Society: Performances, programs and service opportunities as well as free admission to the award-winning Indiana Experience. Participate in a dialogue regarding Civil Rights at 11 a.m. and several other events throughout the day. 

Indiana State Museum: Share rare copies of the Emancipation Proclamation and 13th Amendment, watch videos of Dr. King's speeches and more. Receive free admission to the Indiana State Museum on MLK Jr. Day with a donation of one non-perishable food item. 

Children's Museum: Enjoy special performances and activities celebrating Dr. King's life and black history in the museum's galleries and exhibits. 

Newfields: Free admission to MLK Jr. Day celebration and events with a donation to the Martin Luther King Community Center. 

Indianapolis Zoo: Receive free admission to the Indy Zoo on MLK Jr. Day with a donation of one non-perishable food item for Gleaner's Food Bank. 

Eiteljorg Museum: Free admission with donation of a non-perishable food item.
