How to prepare for snow and winter weather

INDIANAPOLIS — With snow and winter right around the corner, people are encouraged to start preparing.

With power outages, snow, ice, and cold temperatures coming, Indiana Department of Homeland Security has provided some of the following tips to prepare:

  • Gather sleeping bags and warm clothes in case of a power outage
  • Know how to determine if it is safe to drive if the power goes out
  • Create a winter weather preparedness kit with battery operated or hand crank all hazard radio, extra clothing, and warm sleeping bags
  • Create an emergency preparedness kit for your vehicle with blankets, non-perishable food, clothes and jumper cables
