INDIANAPOLIS -- More than 1,000 people descended on downtown Indianapolis Saturday to take part in the second annual Women's March.

The group marched from the American Legion Mall to the Indiana Statehouse where they held a rally with more than a dozen speakers. Indianapolis was just one of dozens of cities across the country and world who held marches in an effort to send the White House a message.

The march - held on the one year anniversary of President Trump's inauguration and last year's Women's March - is intended to encourage women to vote and to send a message to Washington about what they believe needs to be changed.

The nationwide event is intended as a kickoff of a national voter registration tour with a focus on putting more women and progressive candidates into elected offices.

Organizers for the event say this year's march was not intended as a protest against President Trump, but to shine a light on women's issues across the country.
